Ledger of John Davison, Manufacturer of Sleighs and Carriages.
Submitted by LoreenaB on Tue, 01/08/2008 - 13:27.This is a page out of John Davison's ledger book. He was a manufacturer (creator) of sleighs and carraiages. The sleigh named here is a Lo Sleigh, I believe. It cost $40.00. That sounds pretty cheap compared to what a sleigh would cost now. A sleigh now would probably cost over a thousand dollars. They have really gone up in price.
Group Gathering and Sleighs
Submitted by LoreenaB on Thu, 12/13/2007 - 13:20.This picture is of a group in front of a large building with horse-drawn sleighs. This picture was taken between 1860 - 1880. Sleighs were popular in the winter, but only in the winter, because they are designed for ice and snow.
The Ewan Matthews Group
Submitted by LoreenaB on Tue, 12/11/2007 - 18:46.This photo shows the Ewan Matthews group. It consists of three people and a large horse. The horse is pulling a sleigh. The purpose might be so the horse can bring the people to their destination.
Sleighs were used to transport people and goods in the wintertime. They were more common in the late 1800's to the early 1900's. Probably every family had a sleigh on P.E.I back then. In my picture, it was Ewan Matthews and his buddies.
