There are many little facts about peddlars that I can tell you, so this page is going to tell about them.

• Many Canadian peddlars were Syrian/Lebanese. They were mistaken for Jews on many occasions. When they came to Canada, they came in small numbers, carrying almost nothing. They took up less than 1% of PEI's population.

There were many different things sold by peddlars. I have organized them into categories.

Kitchen Items

This is a page from the ROYAL GAZETTE. This newspaper was printed in the year 1904 on April 30. It is a special page made to show who had a peddlar's license. How the page is organized is easy to understand. The first thing you see (if you are looking from the right) is when the license expires.

Peddlars like the one shown in this picture are NOT pack peddlars. Pack peddlars traveled on foot. They were commonly seen in the late 1800's and in the early 1900's. They would normally carry two packs of goods with them, the heavier one on the back and the lighter pack in front.

This is a list of people who got a Hawkers and Peddlars License in the year 1881. The licenses came into use after peddlars became too popular.
