Holman's, Summerside

Image depicts the Ladies Ready to Wear Department at R. T. Holman's Ltd. Summerside store, 1911. Women's dresses, jackets, and other goods can be seen in the photograph.Holman's was a department store in Summerside, PEI. It was very popular and was once called the biggest small town store in the world! Also, a lot of the merchandise was made on PEI, which is very unique because in stores today like Wal-Mart, most things are made in large factories and then shipped to the stores. Holman's started around 1867, and the building is still there in Summerside, but it is now a technology center. Holman's would ship throughout the Maritimes, too. It had many different departments, such as shoes, mens' and womens' clothing, a grocery department, a furniture department, and more! Eventually, they opened a store in Charlottetown, too. Around Christmastime, Santa Claus would come to Holman's so the little kids could tell him what they wanted! Prices weren't expensive, either! Now you pay around $100 for a hockey stick, but back then, it would only cost 10 cents.

"Had everything, very unique."- George Dalton speaking about Holman's.
