This is a man trotting with his horse before a race. He is also showing off his horse to others who are watching. Horse racing was often done on the weekends. Horse racing was also popular with the people around the community of the track.
The equipment needed for horse racing was horse shoes (metal or iron shaped into a semi circle) and horse gear (harness and sulky). The harness was made up of leather from animals and metal attachments. This track was a matinee track, because the only track that wasn't matinee was Charlottetown Driving Park. This photograph was taken around 1919.
