School Teacher's Diary Transcript
January 1888
1st Jan. -
I am now in Malpeque teaching, and have started this new Diary hoping to find something of interest to put in it before it is filled. New Year's Day came on Sunday this year so we could not indulge in much fun. We all drove up to the Church to hear Rev. Mr. MacMillan, who preached a splendid sermon. Mr. MacNutts (sic) invited me back to dinner with them. Tom was the only one left home to cook the dinner, but he had it done all right. The girls and I all went in the drawing room after dinner and talked over everything until tea-time, and after that we spent some time preparing the Bible lesson, then we all drove up to Bible class, and from there home again thus endeth the first day of the New Year.
