Adele Newbery Having a Tea-party

Image of Adele Newbery playing outside, ca. 1885-1910. She can be seen sitting on a wooden bench and appears to be having a tea party with her doll.

This is a picture of Adele Newbery having a tea-party with her doll. Many young children in the early 1900's enjoyed having tea-parties because it made them look more grown-up and gave them an excuse to get dressed up. Adele seems to be sitting on a bench in her back yard with her doll and a small table in front of them with their tea and dishes. Adele looks like she's dressed in one of her Sunday's best dresses for this special event. This photo was taken by Adele's father, Mr. Arthur Newbery. Arthur had a rich family, so not every child would have everything in this photo. The Newberys included Adele, her older sister Marion, her younger sister Flora, her mother, Ella Newbery, and her father. The Newberys lived in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
