Cures for Cancer in the 1900's
This book (Notebook of Recipes and Remedies) says that in the early 1900's, many people believed that you could cure cancer. This book tells you to put sticking plaster over the cancer with a circular piece cut out of the center that's a little larger than the cancer, so that the cancer and the healthy skin next to it are exposed. Then a plaster made of chloride, zinc, blood root, and wheat flour is spread on a piece of muslin the size of the circular opening and applied to the cancer for twenty four hours. When it's removed, the cancer will supposedly be found burned into, and will appear to be the colour and hardness of an old shoe sole. The circular rim outside of it will appearwhite and parboiled, as if it was scalded with hot steam. Now the wound should be dressed, and the outside rim will soon separate. The cancer comes off in a hard lump, and the place supposedly heals up. The plaster is supposed to cure the cancer so that it never grows again.
