Two Boys in Horse-Drawn Sleigh
This picture is of two children, both boys, riding in a horse-drawn sleigh. I think the two young boys are using the sleigh for both transportation and entertainment. I'm not sure of the breed of the horse, but it looks much smaller and different than the other horses I've seen.
Sleighs were used for transportation in the winter. You wouldn't get anywhere with a sleigh in the summer or autumn. For a sleigh to go anywhere, you needed a horse, like in the picture, where the two boys are riding in the horse drawn sleigh. This picture was taken around the 1900's, so this sleigh was used during the 1900's.
The sleigh is made out of wood, and some metal. The reins of the horse are probably made out of leather and a bit of metal.
Sleighs have been used for quite a long time. We even use them today sometimes, not so much for transportation anymore, but more for entertainment. I think you could buy a sleigh such as this one somewhere today. It might not be as big or as small, though.
In this photo, two young boys are riding in the sleigh, but any age could ride in it and use it. One of the boys is even driving the sleigh in this photo!
I'm not entirely sure where this sleigh was made, but it was probably somewhere on Prince Edward Island. Prices for sleighs ranged from $12.00 to $40.00 and up. I'm not sure how much this particular sleigh cost, but it doesn't look as nice or big as others, so I don't think it would cost as much as some others.
