Dr. J. T. MacIntyre and Lady Belle

Dr. J. D. MacIntyre and horse "Lady Belle" on the race track, 1919. Photograph likely taken in Montague, Prince Edward Island.

Here we have Dr. J. T. MacIntyre and Lady Belle trotting around the track. This picture was taken in 1919. This horse would probably cost around $100 to $200 (though famous race horses could cost up to $15,000). Now, a half decent horse would cost around $50,000.

The cart behind Dr. MacIntyre is called a sulky. Back then in the early times, a sulky would cost $50 to $100; now it would be $2000.

Horse racing is a fun sport for people. The sulky gets hooked on to the horse by a harness and the horse pulls it behind him. While the horse is running, the driver, sitting on the sulky, drives around the track hoping to win because if he does, he gets a lot of money.
