Suspenders

Holman's Spring and Summer Catalog, No. 38, 1926. Image depicts page 1 and shows boys and men's jerseys and suspenders. The original catalog has clear pressure sensitive tape along the left side of the page (near the spine).

Suspenders were used by boys and men in the 1900's to hold up their pants, so you can see they were important. Suspenders were used in different jobs, too. There was a special kind for police and even a designer suspender. Another word for suspender is "brace." The brace had two long straps that started at the front of the stomach attached to the man's belt. The two straps ran over the shoulder and down to the back of the belt. In between the two straps on the back, there was an "X" shape . The brace had a big clip that clipped right on the belt. Suspenders cost between 10 cents and 35 cents in Holman's Catalog.
