Farm Buildings
The buildings on a farm included a barn, a milk shed, a wagon shed, a wood house, a hen house, an ice house, and an outhouse. The barn was where you stored cows at one end and horses in the other end. The milk shed was used for separating the cream from the milk. The wagon house was where you stored the wagons. The wood house was where you stored wood to burn for heat. The hen house was where the hens lived. The ice house was where you put ice during the summer. Then you would put milk in it, and it served as a fridge. The outhouse was an outdoor washroom, because houses didn't have plumbing.
This picture shows four men collecting ice for the ice shed. It was taken around 1900.
