A Profit Funeral Register
A Profit Funeral Register
For people who died in the early 1900s, undertakers would write a brief document about their deaths. This would include information about what casket the person was in and which hearse was used. This record was kept so that people could remember someone's death for hundreds of years.
This page shows information about the deaths of John Inman's child, John Bell, John Coughlan and Miss Gaudet. This picture shows that John Inman's child used casket number 6 and hearse number 50. John Bell used casket number 28 and hearse number 2. It shows that John Coughlan used casket number 10, and that Miss Gaudet used casket number 12.
The register also says that John Inman's child died on November 4th, 1900, and John Bell died on the 9th of November, 1900; also that John Coughlan died November 25th, 1900, and Miss Gaudet died the 18th of December in the year 1900.
Some other information recorded was the person's age, occupation, residence, where the person was buried, and the date of the funeral. The register might even give information about the grave, the attendance, the shroud, and the chairs used.
