Winter Train
Submitted by dustins on Fri, 01/11/2008 - 14:57.
The train in this picture had a big snow plow put on the front so that it would be less likely to get stuck, but trains still would from time to time. When that happened, men would come to help shovel it out.

Horse Racing in the 1800s
Submitted by patrick on Wed, 11/14/2007 - 06:38.
Much of the excitement surrounding horse races came from the rivalries between horse owners. Most of the race horses were farm horses unhitched from farm equipment, and the main prize was local bragging rights. With all this honor attached to having the fastest horse in town, or in the district, it was no wonder that so many Islanders were against the import of mainland horses and preached the virtues of Island stock. When there was a race between a local horse and one imported 'from away,' a lot of pride was put on the line.

Dr. J. T. MacIntyre and Lady Belle
Submitted by nathans on Fri, 01/11/2008 - 14:03.Here we have Dr. J. T. MacIntyre and Lady Belle trotting around the track. This picture was taken in 1919. This horse would probably cost around $100 to $200 (though famous race horses could cost up to $15,000). Now, a half decent horse would cost around $50,000.

1900 PEI Train
Submitted by dustins on Wed, 12/12/2007 - 17:44.
This is a picture of a Prince Edward Island train leaving one of the many train stations on Prince Edward Island. PEI got their trains from Britain. Because of that, PEI trains used the narrow tracks that Britain used, not the wider tracks that the rest of Canada used.

A Sleigh at the Seaside Hotel in Cape Tormentine
Submitted by JadeB on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 14:27.In this photo is a horse and sleigh in front of the Seaside Hotel in Cape Tormentine. There are women and children riding in the sleigh. Some men are getting them settled, and are getting ready to ride. This fits into daily life because people used sleighs in the winter to get around. All sorts of people used the sleigh.

Items a Blacksmith Made
Submitted by DanielleR on Fri, 01/11/2008 - 14:53.
This picture shows a horse-drawn sleigh. I think the people on the sleigh are probably going for a ride! The picture was taken in 1890. The Blacksmith would have made the horse-shoes for the horse and maybe some parts of the harness.
