Charlottetown Sleighing Club

"The Charlotte-Town Sleighing Club Under the Patronage of His Excellency the Lieut. Governor". Drawing depicts horse-drawn sleighs in Queens Square, Charlottetown, and may have been an advertisement for the Sleighing Club which was active in the 1840s. Lieutenant Governor Huntley was an active member of the Club (see "Gaslights, Epidemics, and Vagabond Cows: Charlottetown in the Victorian Era", p. 11. Available on PARO library reference shelf 971.75 BAL).

This artifact shows the Charlottetown Sleighing Club, for people who liked sleighing back in the 19th century. Sleighs were used because people liked sleighing for entertainment, transportation, and racing in the winter.

Unidentified group in horse drawn carriage in front of City Hall / Fire Hall in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, ca. 1900. A man with a bicycle can be seen standing in front of the Hall doors.

This is a picture of an unidentified group of people in a horse-drawn carriage in front of the City Hall and Fire Hall in Charlottetown. There are five men in the carriage.
